In schools

In addition to performances and workshops offered to the general public, Hautes fréquences will visit six schools in Eastern Quebec, in partnership with the René-Lévesque School Board, and Arts et Spectacles Matanie. These workshops introduce young people to the diversity of street dance, while allowing them to forge links with internationally renowned artists. The workshops are always an excellent way to pass on a love of dance and inspire the next generation.

THE ARTISTS

Athena Lucie Assamba

Athena Lucie Assamba is an interdisciplinary artist and emerging choreographer-researcher. Her dance style is rooted in African dance forms. Originally from Cameroon, she received her first training in her native country before encountering the street dance community in 2019, which broadened her horizons to include waacking, dancehall, ndombolo, mbolé, and Afro house. In 2020, she joined Afrodomtl, a collective dedicated to the transmission, professionalization, and diversity of Afro-descendant dances in Montreal.

As an emerging choreographer and artistic director, she created BOSEMBO and NkulNnam (2024), followed by African Celestial Beings (2025), a work celebrating the spirituality of African masks. While her training at the Nyata Nyata center allowed her to explore the ancestral roots of movement, her background in neuroscience gave her the opportunity to weave together the arts, spirituality, and healing—a practice born of African mysticism.
